Totoli - app for children
Art direction, Product design, Illustration
Totoli began after acknowledging that existing digital products are not suitable for young children. Most kid’s platforms are not thoughtfully designed and their user-experience overwhelms both children and parents. We decided to build an experience that respects children’s pace and provides peace of mind to their caretakers.
A safe digital space for children
We designed a unique child-friendly interface that triggers their imagination and allows the children to freely explore, play and wander. We crafted a UI that children can interact with fully independently, without the need for parental interference or supervision.
Slow paced digital play
Totoli is a digital playground built around key development areas for toddlers. We collaborated with early-childhood experts to create a calming world for toddlers to play and explore a variety of activities.
Screen-time regulation through storytelling
We designed screentime mechanisms that help children develop healthy habits. Toddlers have a limited understanding of time but are familiar with routine. Totoli’s screen time consists of distinct stages communicated in a playful way.
Process & iterations
Designing for this age group was a huge learning & discovery process. It required a fresh perspective on the design process, lots of testing and iterations. As users, kids behave much differently than grown-ups, the requirements are much different.
Art direction & Brand
Our ambition was to raise the standards of digital brands for kids so we crafted one that reflects care and high quality. We carefully defined an soothing, calm, simple art-direction that informed all aspects of the brand & products, from our hand-made illustrations to our photography.
